O. Messiaen: Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus (no. 15: Le Baiser de l'Enfant-Jésus) - Aimard
Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs "Le Baiser de l'Enfant-Jésus", a movement of Messiaen's huge piano cycle "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus".
Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jésus (20 Contemplations of the Infant Jesus) are a towering specimen of twentieth century pianism. The work lasts more than two hours on those rare occasions when performed -- as Messiaen intended the pieces to be -- as a complete cycle. Written in 1944 and premiered the following year by Messiaen's wife Yvonne Loriod, whose masterful early performances and recordings of Messiaen's piano works did tremendous amount to bring his music to a wider audience in the 1950s and 1960s, the Vingt Regards sur l'Enfan...

A. Scriabin: Vers la flamme (Sofronitsky)
Просмотров 158 тыс.10 лет назад
IMHO the best recording ever made of this literally flamboyant piece by the russian composer Alexander Scriabin. Sofronitsky mixes strength and power with softness and light textures sometimes even reminding the impressionistic experiments of Debussy. Alexander Scriabin completed his Vers la Flamme, Op. 72 for solo piano in 1914. It is a brief work around six minutes in duration, but its epic q...
F. Liszt - R. Wagner: Isoldes Liebestod (Rudy)
Просмотров 71 тыс.10 лет назад
The paraphrase from the last scene of Richard Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde" where Isolde, discovering that her beloved is now dead, sings while being transfigured. This very strong (and difficult) piece symbolizes the friendship between two of the most important musicians of the 19th century. The french pianist Mikhaïl Rudy is the performer. "Liszt chose to transcribe one of the most dram...

Here I am back with a new video after a quite long time of absence! Rachmaninov's third etude-tableau op. 33 no. 3 in C minor performed by the french pianist Jean-Philippe Collard Rachmaninoff composed his Opus 33 Études-Tableaux between August and September of 1911, the year after he completed his Opus 32 Preludes, and while the Opus 33 shares some stylistic points with the Preludes, the piece...

Mikhail Rudy performs the Drei Interemzzi (Three Intermezzi) op. 117 by the german composer Johannes Brahms. The 3 Intermezzi Op. 117 were composed in 1892 and are among the best-loved and most popular of Brahms' autumnal late piano output. On a smaller and more intimate scale than the surrounding sets of Op. 116, Op. 118 and Op. 119, the composer described these pieces as "lullabies to my sorr...

Once is enough. I am very suspicious of music that has erotic roots. The source of inspiration brings to mind a ancient anonymous warning: “Never shall it force itself on us; that that WHICH IS NOT may be. Keep your thought far away from this path of searching.” PWG “Verily, in the house of hades there is soul and ghostly form but, NO MIND AT ALL.”
